Suzanne's Cake & Pastry is a bakery anchored in the heart of Millbrae, known mostly for its take on Portuguese egg tarts and an interesting mix of Chinese-inspired baked goods. If you find yourself wandering Broadway mid-morning, this spot delivers a slice of something both familiar and delightfully different from the usual bakery lineup.

The easiest way to experience Suzanne's is by grabbing a half dozen of their Portuguese egg tarts, ideally shortly after 9am when fresh batches come out of the oven. These tarts have a crisp, buttery crust that contrasts nicely with the creamy custard inside, striking a balance that feels treat-worthy without being overly sweet. They’re worth the price for a casual indulgence, especially on a quiet morning walk or paired with a coffee fetched nearby.

Beyond the egg tarts, Suzanne’s offers an assortment of baked goods that reflect a light fusion between Western and Chinese bakery traditions. On weekends, their sesame steamed buns make an appearance and are popular with locals who often stock up to freeze and enjoy later. Other less typical items like almond thin cookies and various pound cakes round out the offerings, appealing to those seeking something that strays a bit from your average bakery lineup.

The atmosphere inside is straightforward and practical rather than hangout-friendly, focusing on quick pickup rather than lingering. The staff maintains a friendly, approachable demeanor which adds to a no-fuss experience—perfect for early risers or families picking up birthday cakes and special orders like tiramisu-style cakes.

For locals in this part of Millbrae, Suzanne's seems to fill a niche for quality Chinese-style baked treats alongside more familiar Western cakes and bread options, making it a favored stop for those with cravings that span both worlds. If you’re someone who appreciates a bakery that respects traditional pastries but isn’t afraid to mix in a few unique elements, and you don’t need a cafe vibe or tables to sit at, Suzanne’s is the kind of place that quietly fits into daily routines without fuss.

Chestnut cake is OK in my opinion, but people around me like it. It is not too sweet. I wish they blended a chestnut puree into the cream instead of just having vanilla cream with chestnut chunks between the cake layers. On the other hand, the egg tarts are pricy but VERY good, worth it as a nice treat.

All you need to know about their exceptional Portuguese egg tarts and steam buns: 1. Egg tarts - generally available after 9am (baked fresh) 2. Steam buns - available on weekends. I stock up on this because they freeze and reheat well. The individually wrapped baked goods are tasty too. Even better when reheated/air fried at home. I still gotta try their cakes. You're welcome.

Came here for the Portuguese egg tarts. It was worth the drive. Get half a dozen & eat while they're still warm, you won't regret it.

Very nice friendly service from the ladies. A good selection of Chinese baked goods. The pineapple bun and egg tarts were yummy. I would absolutely come again!

Chinese bakery in the Peninsula that offers Chinese sponge cakes as well as other baked goods and even made-to-order cakes. Even though we arrived late in the afternoon, there were still lots of options to choose from. Some items appear to be baked in-house and some items appear to be from Sogo Bakery. If you're nearby and looking for a Chinese bakery, this is a good choice. We would come again.

Best Portuguese egg tart. The filling is so silky smooth paired with a crispy light tart. Not overly sweet - super balanced and delicious

Best egg tarts ever. The rest of the baked goods are very tasty too but their egg tarts are to die for. And they always sold out by mid-day
